A LARGE crowd turned out to see Wirral's two senior female football teams clash in the semi-final of the Women's Cheshire Cup at Poulton Victoria FC's ground.

It resulted in a 5-1 triumph for Tranmere Rovers Ladies over Wirral Ladies.

Tranmere now face Stockport County in the final to be played at Witton Albion's Northwich ground on Wednesday, April 9 (kick-off to be announced).

Tranmere, with Annabelle Pryce and Sarah Manning dominating play, enjoyed most of the attacking opportunities.

Wirral's defence did well to hold out, catching Tranmere offside a number of times and goalkeeper Anthea Kaptien pulling off a number of outstanding saves.

Unfortunately, though, it wasn't enough and Tranmere broke the deadlock. Wirral stayed positive and carried on creating attacking opportunities, but Tranmere managed to sneak in and score another two goals to establish a 3-0 half-time lead.

Wirral made a promising start to the second-half, pressuring for the ball and putting in strong tackles as they sought their first goal.

But it was Tranmere who scored two goals in quick succession to take a 5-0 advantage.

Wirral Ladies, now playing for pride, didn't give up attacking and their hard work and determination was rewarded with Laura O'Brien burst into the penalty area before chipping the ball over the Tranmere goalkeeper to the roar of the crowd.

Wirral Ladies wish to thank all their friends and family who gave their support on the day.
