BOWLERS on Wirral are this week mourning the deaths of three players - Steve Finch, Dave Leonard and Ian Milns.

Sadly, Steve lost his battle after a long illness. He played for Lord Napier for many years and also played an important role in the development of Junior Bowls on Wirral.

Steve started his work with Wallasey Bowling League and this eventually led to the re-birth of the Wirral Junior team. His management coincided with the most successful period and during this time a number of juniors won competitions, including the British Junior Merit on three occasions.

He will be sorely missed.

The funeral takes place tomorrow (Thursday, January 31) at Landican at 11am.

This last week also saw the funeral on Tuesday at Landican of another popular Wirral bowler, Dave Leonard, of Manor Road and West Kirby Vics. He, too will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.

Also it is with sadness that I have to report on the sudden and premature death this week of Ian Milns, son of the late Tony Milns.

Ian played for Meols and then Gladestone Liberals. More recently, he played at Upton and Greasby.

Our sympathies go to all the families.
