WEST Kirby Sailing Club finished runners-up in the RYA Youth Championship at Spinnaker.
They won 10 of their 11 races, but unfortunately the one defeat came at the hands of Itchenor, who took the title after the event was cut short due to lack of breeze.
The West Kirby team comprised Will Shepherd, crewed by Emma Lombard, Matt Shepherd and Kate Robinson, and Owain Matthews and Jemima Riley.
Meanwhile, Liverpool Yacht Club's attempt to start their late autumn series at Pwllheli was thwarted by the weather. There was absolutely no wind when the 13 Liverpool-based yachts reached the start line and the competition had to be abandoned.
Racing has been arranged for Pwllheli while work proceeds on the Liverpool Marina lock-gate, which will be closed for several months.
There was a bonus for the stay-at-home crews. They were able to race on the Mersey because the gate work had been delayed and, amazingly, encountered a squalling force five north west wind.
Nick Ogden in his J122 Ulula took IRC Class One. A close contest in Class Two was edged by John D'Henin in his Starlight 30 Quilla from John Mysercough in a Sadler 32 Catch 32.
The Class Three course was shortened with victory for Vinny Reynolds in a Jeanneau First April.
A meeting shortly will deter mine whether Liverpool and Tranmere Sailing Club join forces. It seems very much on the cards, with the Tranmere clubhouse at Rock Ferry being used as headquarters
