BARNTON celebrated a derby victory against Kingsley on Saturday that moved them away from danger in the Cheshire League’s top-flight.

They finally delivered a convincing performance at the crease, led by Paul Coot (28) and Aidan Malley (63) who put on 53 for the first wicket.

Sam Connop (33) added a further 69 together with the latter before the visitors to Broomsedge battled back to restrict the hosts to 177-8.

Boosted by a total they could defend, Barnton’s bowlers combined to dismiss their opponents for 166.

James Hodgkinson (3-26) claimed the prize wickets of Ben Stoddart (50) and Charlie Loye (40), while Coot (3-49) and Neil Langham (2-46) provided support.

Oakmere ensured they will be promoted from Division Two as champions following a draw with Wilmslow.

Slade Mitrovich (144) passed 1,000 runs for the season with his best score to date, sharing in a fourth-wicket partnership worth 191 runs with captain Craig Phelan (89no) as the visitors amassed 295-4.

They were frustrated by hosts that closed on 160-9 despite the best efforts of six bowlers – the pick of which was Nick Guest with 2-22.

Middlewich slipped into the table’s bottom two despite battling hard for a draw at Irby.

Kieran Boyle (67no) anchored their innings, which closed on 175-8.

That was 14 runs short of the home team’s 189-7 after they had been put in, Liam Crilly (77) and John Harris (54) both passing 50 while Boyle (3-58) and Gavin Twigg (2-47) enjoyed success.

Elsewhere Winnington Park recorded a one-wicket success at home to Woodford after chasing 173 to win – their third victory in the past four matches.

Winsford were no match for visitors Wistaston Village in Division Four, falling to a 66-run reverse at Knights Grange.

The away team scored 183-9, their momentum checked by Dave Etchells (5-50) and Andy Etchells (3-38).

However the hosts struggled at the crease, succumbing for 117 to leave skipper Andy Cooper (31no) stranded.

His stand with Mark Skellon (37 off 34 balls), worth 48 runs for the fourth wicket, was a highlight as Nathen Hobson (7-27) celebrated a day to remember.
