IT was a very good week for the Manor Road Club.

Last Monday, July 30, the team beat Liscard to win the Birkenhead and Wirral League's Cartwright Cup and followed this up on Saturday by beating New Brighton Quarry Vikings to win the Wallasey Association's Presidents Cup.

The final of the Cartwright Cup was played at Thingwall Bowling Club and the Manor Road team had to give their opponents, Liscard, a 60-point start.

Manor Road made a great start winning all the first four games to reduce the deficit to 27 shots and with a further three winners in the middle four it looked as though it was going to be a fairly comfortable evening for Manor Road.

However, when Liscard fought back with two wins of their own and then Liscard's Tommy Brown established an 18-15 lead over Marc Daugherty it looked as though they might pull off a surprise win.

Daugherty did well to hold his nerve and he managed to run out to give his club a five-point victory.

Manor Road's best performances were by Steve Green, 21-08, and Ken Stocker, 21-09, while for Liscard Rod White top scored with a 21-16 win.

The final of the President's Cup was played on the Hoylake Central and Melrose green and in this match Manor Road were given a 30-point start over the 'Vikings'.

Both teams had two winners in the first four though Quarry Viking's Owen Doyle's 21-04 victory gave his team a real boost.

After the middle four Manor Road still had a 15-point lead and though Quarry won three of the final four matches another brilliant win for Steve Green, this time by 21-07, ensured his club a final victory by a margin of 7 shots.

In the Wallasey Association Leagues Sacred Heart have won the second division with Grange in second place while in the third division Upton Victory Hall 'B' completed a League and Cup double when they finished 17 points ahead of second placed Magazine.

The final of the Cheshire Association's Brunner Cup between local club, Tixall, and Wharton Cons will be taking place on Saturday August 18 August.

The match will be played on the Metro Sports and Social Club green, Moss Road, Stretford, Manchester, M320AH. The game will start at 2.30pm.
