A GLORIOUS day with stunning rugby from Caldy edges them ever closer to securing their National One status for another year.

They thrived in the conditions to pick apart an underperforming Blackheath, scoring six tries any side would be proud of.

Nick Royle, who bagged another hat-trick, was once again sublime in his speed and finishing ability.

His second was pivotal and arguably the most eye-catching.

A smart move started by Ben Jones was well-executed and Royle, who collected the final pass from the floor, beat his opposite man by dinking the ball round him stylishly to the home supporters’ delight.

His try took Caldy into a commanding 30-6 lead securing the bonus point.

A perfect response from an upturn in performance from Blackheath.

The hat-trick was completed with five minutes to spare.

Rhys Hayes sold his opposite man with a dummy, starting a run from deep inside his own half.

After running the majority of the pitch with no Blackheath player able to catch him, he drew the fullback and gave a pinpoint pass to Royle handing Caldy an outstanding 42-18 lead.

The backs were excellent.

With much focus on the pack this season, they proved their worth and reinforced the flexibility Caldy have in their ranks.

Tom Concu led from the front with excellent scrummaging.

Blackheath simply could not stop the Caldy shove, nor could they stop the slippery JJ Dickinson from breaking through to score yet another try from the backrow battalion.

Blackheath raised their game to Caldy's level late on, with Alex Pickersgill finishing Joseph Tarrant's move to finally unlock an inspired Caldy defence.

Today Caldy spread their wings in the sunshine.

They rose to the occasion to creep ever closer to playing at the highest level in the club’s history for another season.
