CAMMELL Lairds hosted the Second division Cup Final and saw a stirring cup tie played in freezing conditions by Halfway House and St Andrews United, but with both teams putting on a sterling performance the first half ended goalless.

Chances went begging for both teams in the second period before United's regular scorers Jack Kemp and their man of the match Jack McEntaggart netted a goal apiece to secure a 2-0 victory and claim their first piece of silverware.

A captain’s performance by Andy Simpson earned him the man of the match award for House.

In the First division Cup semi-final Poulton Vics put in a regal display to oust Queens Liscard 3-0 as Andy Beaver fired a double and Karl Barker netted a single to claim their final place.

Nelson FC earned a Wirral DFA Cup final place when beating great rivals JASGA PV 3-2 and this after playing an hour of the game with ten men.

Twice JASGA took the lead through an own goal and a Daren Pritchard effort but a Danny Murphy brace and a single from Josh Davies claimed a hard fought victory and they will now represent the Wallasey League in the final on 1st April.

Two First Division fixtures took place and saw Liver View beat AFC Tima 7-0 to move up into third place.

Wallasey Mens took the spoils when beating Upton FC 4-0 as both Danny Price and Jack McGonagal bagged doubles to steer them clear of the relegation zone.

Higher Beb JFC notched their first win in the Dundee Youth division following a hard fought 2-1 success away at Upton Youth thanks to goals from Owen Warrington and Rob Ashton, with Callum Crosby bagging the lone response.

Manor Youth are now top after their 6-0 defeat of Neston Nomads due to Jack Beggs and Lewis Price scoring doubles and Nile Williams and Connor Lloyd-Jones hitting singles to take the points.

Joe Irvine was a four goal hero for Park Royal in the Grove Youth division as they won 6-2 versus Higher Bebington under-17s and Matty Garrett and Simon Long netted a goal apiece.

On target for Beb were Bobby Evans and Lewis Gandy as they suffered their first defeat.

No goals transpired between Glenavon Athletic and Eastham Rangers Colts as they fought out a 0-0 draw.

JASGA PV play Poulton Vics in the First Division Cup Final next Sunday at Cammell Lairds (11am kick off).

There is some sad news from the league; one of its founder members John Burke died recently after illness.

John played full back for Primventus and was part of the team who won the first ever divisional title in 1963/64, along with the Magee Cup for a memorable double.

He is immortalised with his picture as a young Primventus player on the cover of our 40th anniversary brochure with his winning teammates.

John was a no-nonsense player and took this attitude into his refereeing years as he served the league and local football for many years and he will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Our condolences go to all his family and friends.
