TRANMERE Rovers take a break from National League action this weekend to face Peterborough United in the Emirates FA Cup first round.

Looking forward to Saturday's game at London Road during a press conference at the club's Solar Campus training ground this afternoon Micky Mellon spoke about some of his FA Cup memories and hopes he can create some more at Prenton Park during this campaign.

He said: "Whatever time we go down to play Peterborough, we know it's going to be a tough game.

"But it's certainly a game we’re looking forward to and will give us a measurement of where we are as a team against a side with very good League One players.

"It's a one-off game and a nice distraction for us to have at this stage of the season to be involved in so we’ll look forward to it.

"It gives us a measurement of where we are as a team, gives the players an opportunity to go and measure themselves against a team of very good League One players.

"It gives us a day out that we very much want to take part in."

As far as Mellon is concerned, the game plan for the weekend is simple: "We'll go down there and give it everything we’ve got.

"We’ll take some chances and try to get a result. The players are getting better all the time.”

"We've watched Peterborough and identified where we think their threats are.

"The teams in the National League are strong and the gap between us and League clubs on a one-off game wouldn’t be massive, because we're full-time.

"It's the consistency over a period of time between the players at that level is the area you’ll find there is a bit of a difference.

"But it's a one-off game, our players will be fired up for it and we'll give a good account of ourselves and hopefully get a result."
