OLD Parkonians 1st XI took another step closer to promotion with a dramatic last over victory at Holm Lane.

Opting to bat first on a nice sunny day, the Old Parkonians batting looked much improved compared to recent weeks with the runs coming more freely.

Openers Charlie Allen (37) and Ben Rees (27) set the foundations perfectly, sharing a half century stand for the first wicket.

Greg Lindop (37) and Dave Nedugodan (56) later finished off the innings with some big hitting, amassing 183-6 off 45 overs for the hosts.

The visitors were stubborn in their response, never looking like chasing the total the hosts had set.

Lewis Elwood took the first wicket with 43 runs on the board, but again the incoming batsmen were trying their best to prevent a Parkonians victory.

After 30 overs, the score was only at 78-3 with a draw looking the most likely result.

With five overs remaining and 107-5 on the board, several inspired bowling and field changes began to chip away at the visitors and they began to crumble, with the final winning wicket coming with only four balls of the match remaining.

Phenomenally, the final five wickets fell in the final five overs with the addition of no runs, with Shrigley finishing 107 all out.

Old Parkonians require just 12 points from their final two games to guarantee promotion.

Scores:

Old Parkonians 183-6 (45 overs) 25 points, Pott Shrigley 107 all out (44.2 overs) five points

Result: Old Parkonians won by 76 runs
