A YOUNG golfer from Ellesmere Port is through to the national final of the American Golf Junior Championship.
Nathan Newton put in a fantastic display in the Gross score category in the regional qualification event at High Legh Park Golf Club in Cheshire.
The 15-year-old, who plays golf at Upton-by-Chester, carded a superb round of three over par, in tough conditions off an impressive handicap of three, which left him six shots clear of Flixton junior Ellis Willmott.
He now progresses to the final on August 16 at Gainsborough Golf Club, headquarters to golf manufacturer Ping, where he will take on qualifiers from all over the UK and Ireland for the coveted trophy.
Daniel Gathercole, director of marketing and communications at American Golf said: "This is the fourth year for the Junior Championships and we’ve got another crop of youngsters who are playing some very impressive golf.
"Once again though I'm most impressed by the sportsmanship and positive attitude that we've got used to seeing.
"We can't wait to get these great young golfers to Gainsborough for the final and, with the help of Ping, make it a truly memorable event."
