OLD Parkonians First XI convincingly won the local derby - sponsored by Gregory's Heating & Plumbing - against Tranmere Victoria last weekend.

A superb all-round performance from Ben Rees was key in the victory for the Holm Lane outfit.

At the toss, Chris Beckett called correctly and opted to bat on a pitch that was to offer just as much for the bowlers as the batsmen.

It was Tranmere Vics to make the early running, with superb slow bowling from Daniel Hamm creating enough pressure at one end for Tejpal Singh at the other to remove opener Tim Hitchell (9) and then Charlie Allen (4).

At 18-2 the home side were struggling, but a crucial partnership between Rees (36) and Chris Hitchell saw Parks to 88 before the former was out caught.

After Hitchell (30) also departed and with a healthier score on the board, new batmen Dave Nedugodan and Dan Berkson added 37 each to the total, boosting the score to 160, before both were out caught.

Nisar (18) and Elwood (11*) closed out the innings with Old Parks posting a sizeable 196-8.

After the interval, Rees was thrown the new ball and was immediately in the wickets, firstly bowling Dhanwant Singh for nine and then trapping Bennett for a duck.

Rees (11-2-29-5) then went on to dispatch the next three batsmen leaving Tranmere Vics struggling at 43-5.

Elwood was brought on to replace Rees and seemed a little too quick for the new batsmen, claiming 3-19.

Victoria 95 all-out.

Scores:

Old Parkonians 196-8 (45 overs), Tranmere Victoria 95-10 (31.4 overs)

Result: Old Parks won by 101 runs. Old Parks 25 points, Tranmere Victoria four points
