TRANMERE Rovers' national league campaign continues with a televised local derby match against Chester FC tonight.

Manager Micky Mellon is well aware of the importance of the fixture and say the game, at Deva Stadium, should be an exciting occasion, with three points at stake.

In an interview on the club's website ahead of the game, which starts at 7.45pm, Mellon said: "It should be a good atmosphere under the lights, the TV cameras are there.

"It's an important time of the season so it all points towards being a good occasion.

"It's a local derby so form goes out of the window so it is important that we are well prepared, which we are.

"We know the threats we are going to face and the environment we expect to be going into and we know the importance of getting three points so we'll be ready for the challenge.

"For a local game to be as important as this adds to the spice of it."

Tuesday's postponed game against Forest Green Rovers means Tranmere - who are fourth on the table with 63 points - have a very busy fixture list for the remainder of the campaign.

Mellon said: "We're going into one of the busiest periods that I have ever known as a player or a manager so it's a real challenge for the players but one we are looking forward to."
