OVERPOOL Athletic have booked themselves a place in round three of the CWFL Roodee Web Designs Tom Gerraghty Memorial Trophy after seeing off Ellesmere Port FC Reserves 5-0.

Victory was thanks to goals from Steve Rothwell, Dave Burton (2) and Andy Merner (2).

A Joe Henry hat-trick was not enough for Blacon Youth FC Reserves as they crashed out of the CWFL Devaprint Cayzer Shield, losing 4-3 away to Upton JFC.

With Blacon winning 3-1, Joe Williams of Upton produced a man-of-the-match performance, scoring one goal and setting up a further two for Tom Berry (2) and Danny Evans to send their team through into the next round.

Scott Froggartt, Luke Cassidy, Sam Price and Lee Doyle were all on target for New Ferry Rangers in their CWFL Dee 106.3 League Cup game against Eastham Athletic.

With New Ferry leading 4-0, Eastham staged a second-half fightback through Danny James (2) and Jonny Williams, but it was not quite enough and the game ended 4-3.

Elton Athletic and Orange Athletic were both representing the CWFL in the Runcorn District Senior Cup quarter-finals.

Elton went down 4-3 to Warrington League side Runcorn Albion but Orange booked their place in the semi-finals thanks to a 4-1 win over Railway Rangers – John Heaton (2), Alex Madders and an own-goal did the damage.

On to league action and Mike Parnell netted twice for Birkenhead Town in their 2-1 win in the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division away to Chester Nomads III who had Howell Williams on the scoresheet.

That win for the Town sees them extend their lead to seven points after second-place Newton Athletic drew with third-place Shaftesbury Youth 1-1, Mike McIntyre and John McGraa the respective scorers.

In the big derby game it was Ellesmere Port FC who claimed bragging rights over neighbours Ellesmere Port Town Reserves, securing a 5-0 win with goals coming from Graham Davidson (2), John Britton, Ian Johnson and Mike Newman.

Blacon Youth are throwing their hat into the title mix and continue their impressive run of form after recording their ninth straight win.

They comfortably beat Kelsall 6-0 with goals from Danny Davies (2), Lee McElmeel (3) and Matty Jones.

This win sees them move into fourth place.

In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Division One, AFC ESSAR extended their lead after opponents Hoole Rangers failed to raise a team.

Cestrian Alex move into second spot after an 8-0 win over Whitby Athletic.

Adi Gough and Josh Camy led the scoring, bagging two apiece, with further strikes from Tom Richardson, Joe Walters, Elliot Davies and Nial Peaker.

Sutton Athletic are back on top of the CWFL Link Up Division Two after victory over Upton Rangers.

Dan Higginson led the scoring for Sutton with further goals from Mike Urmston, Pete Barnett, Ian Mayo, Danny McKevvitt, Sam Roddy, Carl Clark and Tom Bowan completing the rout.
