WIRRAL Olympic star Sam Quek has been announced as next year’s Ladies Day Ambassador courtesy of Aintree Racecourse and Women in Racing.

Sam, who took gold in the women’s hockey in Rio, said: "I have always been a big horse racing fan and lover of fashion which makes the Grand National Festival a stand out date in my diary every year.

"I am honoured to have been asked to be the Ladies Day Ambassador and as a local girl, this makes this role doubly exciting for me.

"Aintree always delivers as a spectacle for all and I can't wait to see what the ladies of Liverpool deliver next year as the fashion spotlight shines on them once more."

She will join a panel of leading figures from horseracing, sport and business, focussing on gender balance and diversity in sport.

Regional director for Aintree Racecourse, John Baker said: "We are delighted to be hosting our third Grand Women's Summit at Aintree Racecourse on Ladies Day 2017, in partnership with Women in Racing, which underlines the Jockey Club Northwest's commitment to supporting women in horseracing and sport in general.

"We're looking forward to making it even better this year and I'm thrilled that Sam Quek has agreed to be a Ladies Day Ambassador for the Festival and a panellist for the summit."
