A YOUNG Wirral Thai boxer is celebrating after being crowned world champion for a second time.
Joe Ryan, from West Kirby, was handed the prestigious belt during the World Thai Kickboxing Association championships in Pisa in Italy.
The 12-year-old, who trains at 2Brothers Muay Thai Gym in Birkenhead, had four fights over three days, winning all four with wins over Ukraine, Netherlands, Spain and England.
Joe, a pupil at St Anselm's in Birkenhead, has been Thai boxing for five years. He is now unbeaten in three years with 26 straight wins.
Dad Karl told the Globe: "We are so proud of his achievements and the way he conducts himself both in and outside the ring.
"Joe fought yesterday carrying injuries from the fights the day before. His determination to continue and win amazes me.
"He said he just wouldn't kick with his left as we think he's broken his toe & was aching all over.
"Joe helps teach the junior classes at my gym and has students come from all over the north west to train with him."
