TRANMERE Rovers take a break from National League action this weekend to face Barrow in the Emirates FA Cup qualifier.

Micky Mellon's second game in charge will come in a competition in which he starred in the quarter-finals as a player at Rovers in 2004, losing out in a replay against Millwall.

He is looking to build on last weekend's display, which ended with a 2-0 victory against Wrexham at Prenton Park.

During a press conference at the club, he said: "The cup is important and it's our next game and we need to try and improve from game to game.

"The FA Cup is the competition you watch growing up as a kid and you want to be a part of.

"I always try to remind the players of the romance of the competition and the opportunity that might be there if you do well in it.

"The fans love it too and it's an opportunity to enjoy a bit of limelight.

"I've had days in the FA Cup that will live with me forever.

"Careers are short, in a good career you might only play in 10 FA Cups so you have to remember that, respect the competition and try and get your little part of the magic.

"We want to go and do as well as we can in it."
