WIRRAL and District Association's Frank Hurst Trophy was played last Wednesday at Heswall bowling green between Hoylake Central and New Brighton Quarry Viking’s C.

Thought the Quarry Viking's team were given a 24-handicap start over their Second Division opponents after eight games had been played the Hoylake team, with seven winners, had built up a 29-point lead and might have been expecting to take the trophy.

However, the Quarry team then had three single-figure winners and managed to snatch the trophy by 11 shots, winning 212-201.

For Hoylake, Steve Lyons led off with a 21-05 win, while for the Quarry Trevor Barraclough’s 21-07 was the best of their single-figure winners.

Wallasey Association’s Federation team will defend their title in this year’s Federation Team Knockout Tournament in Prestwick on Sunday, September 11.
