"For 13 of the 15 gymnasts this was the first time they had competed at an International competition and the competition was tough."

The girls all qualified at the UK Gymnastics National Championships In October 2015 and have been training hard since then for their overseas debut.

Speaking on behalf of the club Stephanie Rimmer, continued: "We are so proud of all the gymnasts for what has been achieved.

"A parent of one of the gymnasts told how emotional she became on hearing the English National Anthem sung at the beginning of the competition and then again when the medals were presented.

"We would never ever have expected to have such fantastic success at the World Championships and two world champions!

"The gymnasts, aged eight to 17 were complimented on how they conducted themselves whilst representing the club, Merseyside and the UK.

"The main focus now we are back in the UK will be preparing the gymnasts for the UK National Championships in Milton Keynes in October along with many other competitions.

"We would like to thank the community, club members and their families in assisting with fundraising prior to the trip.

"The cost of competing in a competition of this magnitude is immense and the fundraising helped families buy the required kit and pay for competition fees.

"It was thanks to the community and their support that the children were able to fulfil this dream and actual compete."
