OLD Parkonians 1st XI claimed a win over Frodsham while the rest of the league was washed out due to the weather.

It was touch and go for a while, but a fine knock from the in-form Greg Lindop sealed victory for Parkonians.

Earlier Captain Beckett won the toss and inserted the visitors, hoping to bowl them out before the rain came.

Frodsham were patient though and did their best to bat as long as possible.

A good set of opening spells from Ben Rees (7-1- 17-1) and Dan Berkson (7-2-14-1) put the visitors under scoreboard pressure at 18-2.

Beckett came on for a long spell while at the other end Lindop (4-0-13-0), Winstanley (5-2-7-1) and Elwood (5-0-22-1) were rotated to keep the batsmen guessing.

Frodsham's wickets fell regularly, and they only managed to post 105 all out. Beckett bowled finely again and finished the innings off claiming figures of 14.2- 5-27-6.

The bowlers were backed up with some fine fielding and superb catches.

The Old Parkonians' chase was steady and not without worry.

Ben Rees (7) was bowled early on, soon followed by Chris Hitchell (10) and Nick Hitchell (2).

At 20-3 a recovery was required. Sean Marnick hit some fine shots before being caught behind for 16 and then Mike Hitchell was bowled for four.

With the score at 42-5, the visitors smelled blood as Lindop strode to the crease. Mark Rayner’s patient knock for eight came to an end and Winstanley joined Lindop at the crease.
