UNFORTUNATELY the Birkenhead and District Parks team were not able to build on their earlier success and they lost their match with Yorkshire on Sunday.

In the home tie each team had six winners, with Birkenhead just edging a 201-200 victory.

Mick Andrews and Nick Burridge top-scored with 21-05 and 21-06 wins.

Though John Hignett Jnr won 21-6, Birkenhead only had three winners away and lost 227-183.

The team lost by 20 points to 11.

On Saturday, the Wirral and District's Veteran's handicap was played at Albany and the winner was Upton Victory Hall's Norman Feely, who beat Tom Bentley, of Meols, in the final.

Feely played very well all day, dominating each match and thoroughly deserved his victory.

Tixall's Nigel Hughes won the Wirral Merit Tournament played on Sunday, June 12.

In the final he beat his teammate at Tixalls, Jamie Fitzpatrick.

The Magazine Charity Pairs Tournament was played on Saturday, June 11 and attracted 53 entries, raising more than £500 for the Elleray Park School.

After a long day the winners were Anita Richardson and Sue Wynne, from the Melrose and Hoylake Central Club, who came from 17-13 down to beat Ritchie Dawson and Ged Roberts in the final.

In the final of the Wallasey Association’s Harold Jones Cup, the Manor Road ‘A’ team lost by 234 to 232 to a very strong New Brighton Queens Royal team on the Royden Hall green.

In the end it came down to the last match and it was Queens Royal’s Craig Saville, who came through with a wonderful last wood to win his match against Mark Daugherty (21-20) and claim victory for his club.

In the Junior Merit Tournament held on Saturday at Cammell Lairds Matty Owen beat Owen Turner in the final.
