Tranmere Rovers midfielder Jay Harris has signed a new two-year contract to extend his stay at the club until the end of the 2017-18 season.

The 28-year-old has been an integral figure in the heart of the Rovers midfield this season, making 39 appearances and scoring three goals.

Harris joined Tranmere last summer from Wrexham and quickly established himself as a fans’ favourite with his wholehearted performances and stunning strike on his debut against Woking.

After signing his new deal, Harris said: “I’m really pleased to be staying at Tranmere for another two years.

“I've been made to feel so welcome since I arrived at the club. I've had a great year and, as a club, we want to get into the play-offs and we're still in the hunt for that.

“The club has come off the back of two rough years with back-to-back relegations but hopefully we can get promoted and then it's onwards and upwards."

Manager Gary Brabin said: “I’m delighted that Jay has agreed to remain at the club.

"He’s a local lad and a wholehearted player who has settled into the squad well and has been excellent for us this season.

“Jay is a key part of the plans we have going forward so I’m really pleased he’ll be here for the next two seasons.”
