LEAGUE Division Three leaders Heswall Reserves continued their push for promotion and raced seven points clear at the top following Saturday’s comfortable victory over visitors Chester Nomads.

A smart double from Luke Blondell was supplemented by further efforts from Ian Colligan and evergreen campaigner Gordon Harrison as the Gayton Park outfit posted their eleventh win of the season.

Jimmy Carter bagged Nomads' consolation.

Despite goals from Ryan Youds and Leon Clarke, Mersey Royal’s outside chances of promotion took a knock after they capitulated 3-2 to a hat-trick from Marshalls Reserves’ Liam Elwood.

Ashville Reserves had Stuart Hardman (2), Jay Prescott and Greg Sandans on target, but shared the spoils, after Redgate Rovers Reserves hit back via Ben Woodrun (2) and Jake Gerrard.

Only one game took place in Division Two and it was a profitable excursion for Ashville’s senior side who celebrated a fine 3-2 result at Southport Trinity inspired by a Timmy Bigland double and an effort from Sam Hunt. Trinity’s replies came from John Milner and Martin Wilson.

Saturday’s Division One action saw Maghull move to within a point of current leaders Vauxhall Motors after a solitary strike from Liam Dodd dashed Heswall’s hopes in their fight to stave off relegation.

Chester Nomads maintained interest when Jack Delgardo, Dale Harris and Ryan Trousdale applied the finishing touches in the 3-0 eclipse of Mallaby.

And it was a welcome three points for struggling Mossley Hill Athletic who overcame Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves 3-2 with goals from Tom McNamara (2) and John O’Brien.

Lairds slumped to their seventh defeat of the season despite replies from Ricci Neil and Gino King.

Cup heroes West Kirby & Wasps returned to league action and savoured a 4-3 win over Capenhurst Villa.

John Strange struck twice and was joined by Mike McGraa and Joe Heath with Ryan Nicoll (2) and Ken Fieldsy in reply for Cape.

In the Youth Division, goals from Litherland Remyca Youth’s Tom Hill and Liam Vangelder failed to prevent their side from going down 3-2 to Maghull Youth, who sealed the win with goals from Oscar Pugh, Lewis Wilde and Jack Jones.

Vauxhall Youth scored through Sam Lane but an own-goal salvaged a point for visitors Cammell Laird 1907 Youth.

Vauxhall Motors Reserves progressed to the Wirral & District FA’s Amateur Cup final after they triumphed 6-4 against Chester & Wirral Leaguers Woodchurch. Luke Edwards (2), Owen Ainscough (2), Kevin Leech and Jack Sailes found the net for the Motormen.

After extra time produced a 7-7 stalemate, Upton AA Reserves lost 4-2 on penalties to Blacon Thistle in the Chester Challenge Cup second round, but their first team fared better, and secured their passage to the Chester Senior Cup semi-finals after they put paid to Division One rivals Helsby, 6-4 after extra time.

Luke Finch and Rich Lichfield scored two apiece for the winners, while Matty Johnson plundered three for Helsby
