IT WAS a good day for Tixall's Dave Gilmore at this week’s Flyers Tournament as he just got better and better through the qualifying rounds and, at the end of the morning’s play, took the first prize beating New Brighton Quarry Viking’s John Harrison in the final.

In the quarter-finals, Gilmore had a good win over Dougie Briscoe, who plays for the Llanymynech club in the North Wales League, and he then had a very impressive win over his team-mate at Tixall, Jamie Fitzpatrick, in the semis.

Harrison also enjoyed a good run to the final. He was too good for Upton Victory Hall's Bob Hodgson in his quarter-final match and he had a great win over Gladstone’s Jason Dermott in the semi-final.

Though he did all he could in the final, Harrison could not match Gilmore in his current form and the Tixall man took a very well- deserved 21-10 victory.
