ALDERLEY Edge were welcomed to Glasspool fields on Saturday afternoon in what was expected to be a relatively close match, however the final result could not have been more different to those expectations.

Oxton started as they meant to go on, with an early goal for Neil Worrall and an emphatic finish from Cal McDougall to make it 2-0 within 10 minutes.

It could have been game over after 15, but Ali McKenzie was ruled out twice brilliantly by the impressive Alderley Edge goalkeeper, who was by far the away side's best player.

Edge were relentless in putting pressure on the Oxton defence, however the home side stayed resilient and manage to see out the first half 2-0 up.

The second half began in similar style as Neil Worrall doubled his tally for the day, however younger brother Mark was not to be outdone by his sibling and managed to bag a brace for himself.

Alderley had a couple of chances that were saved well by the Oxton keeper, however the moment of the day came late into the final moments as Right Back Nikolas Heyes finished off a 55-yard run up the pitch to put the ball in an empty Edge goal, scoring his first goal for .... well, years!
