NEWLY crowned Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One champions West Kirby concluded their season with a flourish after they overcame Ashville 4-2 after extra-time in Thursday's Wirral & District FA Senior Cup Final at Prenton Park.
Matty Cass put Kirby ahead on 80 minutes and then conceded the free-kick in the dying stages which saw James Kelly equalise.
Chris Barrow then restored Kirby's lead in the extra period and the issue was effectively sealed when Cass scored his second. A further goal from Paul Casey made it 4-1. Craig Smith scored Ashville's second.
On the same evening, Division One rivals Marine Reserves capitulated 1-0 to strongly fancied Waterloo Dock in the Liverpool FA challenge Cup Final.
A new name was etched on to the West Cheshire Shield, after Bronze Social overcame rival Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division Three outfit Shaftesbury.
The 4-0 victory was a fitting end for what capped a consistent season for Bronze, who also narrowly missed out on a coveted promotion spot.
Shaun Cassidy was a two-goal hero who was joined on the score sheet by Shaun Mooney and Neil Blackmore.
In sharp contrast, opponents Shaftesbury suffered a miserable league campaign and a second from bottom finish now means them having to seek re-election.
The West Cheshire Bowl final was a closer contested tussle, which was eventually settled on penalties following extra-time.
Goals by Maghull Reserves' Dave Coogah and James McKenzie were negated by replies from Halton's Adam and Steve Horrocks before Halton emerged 4-3 victors in a nerve-jangling shoot-out.
West Cheshire League followers are reminded that a limited number of tickets are still available for the annual presentation evening at Vauxhall's on Thursday week (May 24).
