Wirral’s own trail-blazing sports academy WESPA will step up its pursuit of a golden future for the region’s gifted young athletes next week with the launch of its Olympian-driven Master Classes.

Over the course of three days – from October 26 through to October 29 – aspiring Olympians will converge on Woodchurch High School indoor sports centre to be put through their paces by a host of world-class coaches.

World Elite Sports Performance Academy provides “non-sport specific” world-class performance training to young athletes as they bid to improve their physical and mental conditioning to international standards.

On Monday, October 26, after three sessions of performance testing, two of the North West’s most respected football coaches – Ted Sutton, formerly of Everton FC, and Liverpool Academy’s Ted Smith – will begin the hunt for the next Wayne Rooney or Steven Gerrard.

The following day England international and Manchester Thunder GA, Eleanor Caldwell, will oversee a literally hands-on netball master class and Olympic star Holly Lam Moores will deliver her expertise in nandball.

On Thursday, October 29, Olympian and European gold-medallist Michael Harvey will be on hand to guide, train and educate our Taekwondo athletes and world bronze and European silver medallist Sophie Cox will be on the mat to deliver invaluable advice to our would-be Judo stars of the future.

“The whole concept of WESPA is very, very exciting and I am glad to be onboard,“ said Harvey.

"Although many people still regard Taekwondo as very much a minority sport, it has a large and dedicated following here in the North West.

“The team WESPA has put together really does dramatically enhance the chances of our talented youngsters attaining their goals and realising their dreams.

"I am so looking forward to joining my fellow Olympians at Woodchurch High next week.

"The message from us is very simple – sign up and give it a go.“
