Gary Brabin was delighted with his team's display in a 2-0 victory over league leaders Forest Green Rovers.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead when James Norwood found Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who slotted home.

Norwood then met Lois Maynard's cross and his header flew into the top corner to double the lead.

Elliott Frear saw an effort well saved and Charlie Clough's header was cleared off the line as the hosts tried to get back into it but Tranmere held on.

Forest Green's lead at the top of the National League is now just a solitary point after the defeat, while Tranmere climb into the top five.

Brabin was pleased with the response from his players after two defeats in the past week.

He said: "We were disappointed with the last two results but today was a good performance. It was a good, thorough performance from back to front."

Tranmere brought in forward Gary Taylor-Fletcher before the game and the former Leicester and Blackpool man got off the mark five minutes into his debut.

The manager says his quality and experience shined through in his first game in a Tranmere shirt.

He said: "Gary is one who I have spoken to. I think we needed a bit of know how and guile and experience and I think it's easier when you score after five minutes. He was excellent today.

"The pair of them, him and James Norwood, looked really lively today. We're delighted with them. We knew someone of his calibre and experience would fit straight in and it was a really good performance.

"We've got some good footballers and we played some good football today. We created chances, scored two good goals and that's what were capable of.

"It's a strange league in terms of its unpredictability. We're still in a really good position."

Rovers will host Lincoln in FA Cup qualifying next Saturday at Prenton Park.
