NICKY Monaghan is the toast of Ellesmere Port after a match-winning performance saw his side through to round two of the Wirral FA Senior Cup.

Port were chasing the game against West Cheshire Division Two high-flyers Neston Nomads. Neston took an early lead before Danny Page equalised before half-time.

Neston retook the lead until a Nicky Monaghan penalty on 80 minutes forced the game into extra time.

And it was Monaghan who struck again in the first period of extra time to give the Port a 3-2 win that they were able to hold on to until the final whistle.

Mallaby had the rub of the green in their clash with Shaftesbury Youth, winning 4-2. Shafts’ scorers were Mike Watkins and Jacob Drayton.

In the Wirral FA Amateur Cup it was Woodchurch who turned on the style against West Cheshire opposition. A James Atherton brace with further goals from Sonny Allinson, Dan Kelly and Robbie Ellis gave the Woodchurch side a convincing 5-1 win over Heswall Reserves.

In the same competition Ellesmere Port Town Reserves were unlucky, going down 2-1 against West Kirby.

In the Wirral FA Junior Cup Samba were handed their first defeat of the season losing 3-1 at home to Mersey Royal. Steve Finlay was their scorer.

New Ferry Rangers were in seventh heaven as they beat Ellesmere Port Town III 7-0 thanks to strikes from Adam Bagley (3), Chris Carress, Nathan Crabtree, Sean Hyland and Luke Cassidy.

Mark Reed netted twice for Neston Nomads Reserves and Steve Lunt added a third in their 7-3 loss at the hands of Whitby Athletic. Whitby scorers were Sean Weaver, James Atkins, Jamie Banford (2), Andy Merner (2) and Regan Barlow. Danny James, Adam Morgan, Mike Roberts and Dan Piggott scored for Eastham Athletic in their 7-4 defeat at Neston Town and Cammell Laird Youth beat Ellesmere Port Spartans 3-1.

In the Chester FA Senior Cup, CWFL side Deva Athletic travelled to Cheshire League One side Tarporley Vics and secured a memorable 4-2 victory thanks to goals from Steve Creelman (2), Sean Taylor and Dave Campbell.

The CWFL representative side plays the Isle of Man in the FA Inter League Cup next week.
