OXTON Ladies faced local rivals Neston Ladies at Glasspool fields in the second league game of the season, winning 2-0, writes Alison Mealor.
Oxton started strongly, playing confident, passing hockey.
But Neston were not keen to allow Oxton to have it all their own way, and after a slow start began to ramp up the pressure.
Oxton held steady and were soon able to capitalise upon a well-worked passage of attacking play to score the only goal of the first half with Jules Armstrong volleying the ball into the back of the net, while on the rise.
Play moved from end to end, and as the heat started to take its toll, both sides squandered opportunities to increase the tally on the day.
The second half saw Oxton hold their nerve and as a result, they were soon rewarded with another goal, Jules Armstrong once again finding the back of the net from a well-timed Kate Burrows’ pass.
