THE final of the Cheshire Association's Brunner Cup played at the Davenham Rec Bowling Club on Saturday was a repeat of the 2014 final with Tixall and Gladstone meeting again.

At the end of another tight contest, the winners were again the Tixall Club, this time by 225 points to 209.

The standard of bowling throughout was a credit to both teams and reflected well on the high standard in Wirral.

A 21-13 win for Andy Hayes and two other winners in the first four saw Tixall establish a slight lead, but Gladstone fought back with good wins for James Whalley, 21-13, and John Finch, 21-10.

It was left to Tixall's back four to clinch their victory with another three wins which included a 21-13 by Phil Lee.

In the final of the Birkenhead and Wirral Afternoon Section's Centenary Cup played at Bromborough Pool on Friday, Oxton Conservative 'B' from the third division upset the odds with a tremendous victory over their first division opponents Higher Tranmere 'B'.

The Oxton team were given a 40-point start but their dominant display made this an irrelevance as they swept to victory by a further 29 points.

With their first four all recording winning scores Oxton always had a big lead and they took a well deserved victory.

Eric Bell's 21-15 was the best score for Tranmere, while for Oxton Ritchie Kirby won 21-11 and John Lewis and Dave Rimmer both had 21-12 wins.

The Tony Viskocil Memorial Trophy Tournament took place at the Manor Road Club and the winner was Gladstone's Nick Burridge who beat Tixall's Jamie Fitzpatrick 21-16 in the final.

The Ladies New Brighton Tournament, which finished on Saturday, was won by Pensby's Kath Davies and this means that she is now a reserve for the Waterloo Champion of Champions Tournament.

In the recent Isle of Man Tournament there were no Wirral winners but Sandridge's Nicky Gilmore playing with Mathew Simpson from Cumbria reached the final of the Mixed Pairs event.

Pensby's Lynsey Gorman got through to the semi-final stage of the Ladies Tournament and Anita Richardson of Melrose lost in the quarter finals.

Tixall's Jamie Fitzpatrick also reached the quarter final stage of the men's event.

Nicky Gilmore's good showing in the Isle of Man follows on from her victory in the Pensby Pairs which she won playing with New Brighton Quarry Viking's Chris Barton.

The Wallasey Association's Pairs League programme has just about finished and in the first division New Brighton Queens Royal, despite losing their final match to West Kirby Victoria, are the 2015 champions.

West Kirby Victoria are in second place closely followed by New Brighton Quarry Vikings.

The second division winners were New Brighton Quarry Vikings 'B' with Sacred Heart second.

There are still a few games to play in the Birkenhead and Wirral Afternoon Section and at the moment the first division could not be much closer.

Last year's champions, Higher Tranmere, currently have a three-point lead over Heswall RBL and with the two teams meeting in the last game of the season at Tranmere it could go either way.

It is also tight at the top of the second divisions with Thingwall, Manor Road 'B' and Albany all in contention.

In the third division, Navel Vets must be the favourites over Harrison Park 'B' and Port Sunlight Village and Works.

Wallasey RBL and Upton Victory Hall 'B' both have a comfortable lead in divisions four and five respectively.
