IN The final of the Wirral Association's Frank Hurst Trophy at Heswall, Gladstone had a huge task to try and overhaul a handicap of 65 against New Brighton Quarry Vikings 'B'.

They came agonisingly close but, despite having 10 winners and with both losers only going down 21-20, they lost by just one shot, 251-250.

So New Brighton Quarry Vikings 'B' are this year's Frank Hurst winners.

In an extremely sporting match played in a great spirit throughout the Viking's two winners were Phil Hale and Jamie Box while for Gladstone Brian Hanlon, Ritchie Finch and Tony Sullivan all won 21-09.

The Bebington Evening League has now been completed and the A division has been won for the second consecutive year by Gladstone with Tixall in second place.

Albany dominated the B division winning by a very big margin and are returning back into the higher division, following them is Kings 2000.

In the C division Bebington Park and Pensby 'B' have tied for first place and will both be promoted.

It seems very early to be talking of winter but the popular series of Winter Flyers Tournaments, played each week in Birkenhead Park, is starting again on Sunday, September 20.

Everyone is welcome and players should report in the Park by 9.45am.

Apology:

Last week it was reported that Great Meols came second in the third division of the Wallasey League.

In fact they finished tied in second place with Queens and in a play off last Wednesday evening it was the Queens Club that won through to take their place in the second division next year.

Hard luck Great Meols.
