CHESHIRE engaged in a high-scoring match away to Cumbria to end their County Championship Northern Group One programme on a high note.

Unfortunately the 52-40 victory at Mowden Park was not enough to top the group.

Lancashire posted a third win at the expense of Yorkshore 29-14 and now take on Southern Group winners Hertfordshire at Twickenham to decide the Bill Beaumont Trophy.

Cheshire included players from Caldy, Wirral and Birkenhead Park in their last outing but they are left ruing a narrow defeat at the hands of Lancashire at Chester in their opening match when silly errors provded so costly.

All the players will now be glad of a summer break before league action resumes in September.
