THE balance of power in the race for the Wirral Sunday League’s Division Two title shifted after current leaders, Wallasey Athletic forfeited their 100% record after they were held 2-2 by Victoria Colts Senior

Early goals from Gareth Dickinson and Grant Fowler put Vics in the ascendancy and, had a third effort not been ruled out for offside, the game might have been out of reach for the hosts.

Instead, Wallasey came back strongly to salvage a point thanks to efforts from John Berry and the equaliser from Mark Tolcher.

That result enabled unbeaten nearest rivals Port Sunlight to strengthen their position and they duly obliged when five-goal Marc Lawlor called the shots in Sunday’s 9-1 victory over luckless MSC Eastham.

Doubles from Andy Grimes and Liam Stephens completed the scoring for Sunlight, who moved to within a point of the leaders with a game in hand. Wes Thurgill obliged with Eastham’s consolation.

Sunday’s Pyke Cup second round action saw Kent FC breeze through their contest with Division Two minnows, Halfway House.

A Danny Morley brace was supplemented by further efforts from Anton Major and man of the match, Colifa Kamara, as Stephen English’s outfit secured their passage.

Division One rivals Telegraph also progressed after a closely-fought contest with Grace Arms was settled by a a solitary strike.

Wirral Sunday supporters are reminded the first Pyke Cup semi-final between big guns Kent FC and arch rivals Neston Nomads kicks off at 7pm, this Thursday, April 2, at Cammell Laird.
