THE cricket season is back – so predictably, rain stopped play.

Many grounds were waterlogged and caused postponements of the Magee Cup Final and the Wirral FA Junior Final, as Heswall FC and Ashville FC’s pitches were under water.

Dates for these finals will be advertised as soon as possible.

The games that did take place helped resolve some cup ties and AFC Liverpool shocked Parkview FC in the Capitol Cup fourth round with a 6-4 win. Tyler Dodd, Sean Wright, Alex Northover (2) and Brandon Thomas (2) scoring.

Bagging the replies were Jordan Griffiths, Mike McNamara, Paul Williams and Grant Charlesworth.

Hat-tricks from Paul Howells and Craig Pallister helped Liscard Bronze hammer West Kirby Wasps (Sam Jones) to set up a clash with rivals Great Float S&S.

Dutchman Cup third round action saw Vineyard win 4-1. Liam Williams, Mark Munt, Kyle Jamieson and Dave Southall got on the scoresheet for Vineyard.

Division One saw FC Victoria win 6-0 as they swapped places with opponents Champions Bar. Darren Graham hit a hat-trick, with Leigh Davies, Danny Holdsworth and Martin Egan also scoring.

The only fixture in Division Two saw Wallasey Oval regain top spot after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Nelson Grove.

An own goal and a Tom Ward penalty sealed the points, Danny Murphy scored the consolation for Nelson.

Glenavon beat AFC Beb Athletic 4-2. Glenavon’s scorers were Harry Ashcroft, Danny Lamb, Luke Dixon and Sean Ratchford.

Teams are reminded to get early inspection of grounds during the wet weather and make every effort to get games played, especially cup ties, to prevent further problems with fixture congestion.
