TRANMERE Rovers will be aiming to climb out of the relegation zone when they face Cambridge United tonight.

The game, at the Abbey Stadium, will be the 24th meeting between the two clubs.

It follows a 1-0 defeat by Northampton Town on Saturday which left Rovers two points adrift from safety in the relegation places.

They go into tonight's game at 23rd place on the table with 34 points from 36 matches. Victory could lift them two places in the League Two standings.

Cambridge United are in 16th place with 43 points. Their home record this season is six wins, four draws and eight defeats. They drew 1-1 with Stevenage on Saturday.

In an interview on the club's website ahead of tonight's match, coach Alan Rogers said: "We just want to get a win. A win can take you up two or three places and will hopefully get a bit of confidence in the boys.

"If you look around the squad, we've got good players. We need to get the lads confident and put what they do on the training ground onto the pitch and get a result.

"Since the Manchester United game, Cambridge have been a bit hit and miss.

"They scored a 94th minute equaliser on Saturday.

"It's going to be a battle so we're going to have to roll our sleeves up, dig in, which we will do, and we'll have a right go."

Rogers also revealed that Rob Taylor is out of action tonight because of a hamstring strain as is Danny Holmes, who has an injury behind his knee.
