TRANMERE Rovers' boss Micky Adams says his squad faces a difficult League Two clash with York City this weekend.

Saturday's game, at Bootham Crescent, will be the 76th time the two sides have met in league action.

Rovers have won 31 times to York's 28 and the sides drew 1-1 at Prenton Park on the opening day of the season.

They go into the tomorrow's game at 20th place in League Two with 31 points from 29 games. A victory tomorrow could lift Adams' side as high as 16th.

York are three places and two points below Tranmere with a home record of one win, eight draws and six defeats.

Tomorrow's game follows Rovers' 1-1 draw with Newport County at Rodney Parade on Tuesday night.

Assessing this weekend's opponents in an interview on the club's website, Adams said: "I have been impressed with the style of football they have played, even though they are at the bottom end of the table.

"I've seen them on a few occasions this year. They were very unlucky against Luton, went to Bury and drew in a game I saw.

"They play an attractive style of football.

"I don't know why they have only picked up a few wins, I can't tell you that, but I know that on the day they are a handful.

"They are competitive, they don't get beat on too many occasions they are always in games.

"So, we know how difficult the task is going to be on Saturday."

Adams has added Sheffield United's Harrison McGahey to his squad ahead of tomorrow's game at York City.

The defender joins on loan until the end of the season and adds to the manager's options at a time when he is without Michael Ihiekwe (ankle), Marcus Holness (knee) and Matt Hill (Achilles tendon), while Danny Holmes is a doubt with a thigh injury.

Cole Stockton missed Tuesday night's game at Newport but Iain Hume is pushing for a starting role after coming on as a substitute in the last two matches.
