DESPITE a spirited challenge, it wasn't a day for the giant killers as plucky Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division Three promotion chasers, Neston Nomads forfeited their chance of reaching the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup semi-finals, after they were eliminated by consistent Division One performers, Capenhurst Villa.

The underdogs acquitted themselves admirably against their South Wirral rivals, but it was Cape's superior fire power which won the day, after a smart double from Simon Thelwell and a goal from Kyle Smythe cemented a 3-0 result.

On the domestic scene, Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves, eroded South Liverpool's lead at the top of Division One four points after they eclipsed Southport Trinity inspired by a match winning performance from midfield anchor man, James Clare, who scored twice in Saturday's 3-2 triumph.

Hino King was the other marksman, with Tommy Hughes and Danny Ventre in reply for the hosts.

Third placed Helsby maintained interest, after they won 3-2 at Mossley Hill Ath. thanks to a goal apiece from Peter McShane, Danny Collins and speed merchant, Matty Johnson..

Wayne Smith was a two goal star who struck for Hale in their 6-0 blitz of bottom club, Ashville, and Kal Herbert followed suit, with a brace for Vauxhall Motors in Alan Schumaker side's fine 4-2 result at Maghull.

Goals were the order of the day, as a lack lustre Mallaby capitulated 6-3 at home to Upton AA.

A Dale Higham hat trick was supplemented by further efforts from Nathan Mapletoft and Steve Rowlands, as Upton lead 6-0 with 20 minutes to go, before the hosts rallied through Connor Cavanagh, Joel Burns and Shaun Crosbie to add a little respectability to the scoreline.

Division Two title favourites, Rainhill Town, stayed eight points in credit, after they won 3-2 at Ashville Reserves, with goals from Matt Dooling (2) and Liam Ryder.

Unbeaten nearest rivals, Heswall, had Lee New, Andy Kingam and Karl Clampitt on target in their 3-0 decision over Prescot Cables Reserves, but a Colin Cunliffe goal counted for nothing, after Hale Res. went down 3-1 to replies from Willaston's Neil Kelly, Dean Jones and Adam Winstanley.

Regate Rovers posted the Division's highest score when goals from Ben Helm (3), Danny Halsall (2), Youseff Banarous and Dave Halsall anchored them to a 7-0 rout of Bebington Athletic.

Relegation rivals, West Kirby Res, enjoyed better fortunes and bagged three precious points with a 2-0 victory at Gateacre Village. Lee Butterworth and Matty Croft were the marksmen.

Honours were shared when a goal from Marshalls' Lucas Porquet was negated by a reply from Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves' Phil Dunning, and the points were also shared after Vauxhall Motores Res., finished 2-2 with Maghull Res.

Despite goal from Terry Naylor, Division Three leaders, Kirkby Town Railway suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Capenhurst Villa Res. who netted via Danny Higginson and Sparky Ryan.

That result allowed nearest rivals, South Liverpool Res. to close ground and they drew level on points at the top, after goals from Ryan McMahon (2), Adam Shelton, Nathan Trout, Cameron Dalton and Adam Brittles secured a 7-0 result over Heswall Res.

Three-goal hot-shot John Milner anchored Belfry to a 5-3 win against Mersey Royal and a two goal blast from James Morley had the desired effect, as third-placed FC St.Helens overcame Ford Motors, 3-1.

Jake McAllum was another two-goal star who shone for Chester Nomads Reserves in their 4-1 triumph over Everton PLH.

Only one game took place in the Youth Division, and it was a profitable return for second placed South Liverpool Youth who savoured a 3-2 success over Maghull Youth. Vita Mbolokele (2) and Alex Griffiths obliged for the winners.
