DUE to the continuing poor weather the Wirral Borough Council closed all grounds and the lost fixtures will now be re-scheduled in the New Year.

This vacant weekend allows me to recap the season so far and thank all the league management committee and the referee’s panel for all their help and support during yet another eventful campaign.

Millhouse are pushing hard to take the Premier division title, with previous champions Liscard Bronze not giving up on retaining their crown, but the main contenders are Great Float S&S who are second and who are also fighting on Cheshire FA and Wirral FA cup fronts in search of success.

The diggers from AM Plant Hire sit top of division One and are aiming for promotion, but Champions Bar and FC Victoria are well in the mix in a very close battle for honours, with Ship Wallasey sailing close to the promotion pack.

Four of the top five in division Two are all newcomers to the league, with Wallasey Oval being the pace men at the top as they hold a six point advantage over Grange Hearts, who keeping pumping up the pressure in the title race. Add to them Parkview FC, Matrix FC and Wallasey Town who are all providing stiff opposition in a very good division that looks like going to the wire for honours.

With games in hand and only dropping five points, AFC Liverpool look a good bet to take the title in the Dundee Youth division as Callum Morrison continues to net the goals on a regular basis.

However, Cammell Laird 1907 Youth and Victoria Colts are well in the mix and only a point separates the three teams.

Also hoping to sting their opponents are West Kirby Wasps who have the games in hand, with the best defensive record in the division.

Although leading the Grove Youth division by three points Gayton JFC are keeping a watchful eye on Shaftesbury Youth who are the top scorers and who have only forfeited three points so far this term.

Three other title contenders are AFC Beb Athletic, Beechwood Falcons and AC Hoylake who are all on the fringes of the leading two teams.

All those teams who are still representing the league in Cheshire FA and Wirral FA cup competitions are wished every success and referee’s who gain prestigious appointments are also wished the best of luck in these fixtures.

Finally I would like to thank the local radio and press for their continued support in helping to promote the oldest Sunday league on the Wirral, who are now staging in their 51st season, and the coverage they provide for local grass roots football is very much appreciated.

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year is wished to you all.
