TRANMERE Rovers' assistant manager Matt Gill will take charge for Saturday's match against Oxford and says the next three points can't come quickly enough.

He will take charge of Rovers alongside Alex Russell while new manager Micky Adams - who was appointed following the sacking of Rob Edwards this week - watches from the stand.

Looking ahead to the game, which kicks off at 3pm, Gill said: "We know it's going to be a tough game. Oxford haven't had a brilliant start either. It's an opportunity for both teams.

"The most important thing is that we draw a line under what has happened, move forward and try to get the win as quickly as possible.

"The lads have responded really well [to the events of the week], they've trained hard.

"It's a case of getting that win as soon as we can and restoring a bit of belief.

"I think it's ideal we move forward quickly. From a personal point of view no one is more disappointed than I am about Rob leaving. But it's the football world.

"Everybody needs to take responsibility.

"Moving forward it's a clean slate for everybody and it's a case of doing everything you possibly can to help the club move up the league.

"I've played against Micky's teams and he's a very experienced manager.

"I'm looking forward to learning a lot from him and hopefully the team getting the results that I believe we've got in us.

"The manager is going to meet the lads on Saturday and everyone needs to move on quickly.

"He'll hopefully help get us over the winning line a few more times."
