REIGNING Wirral Sunday League Premier Division champions Neston Nomads opened the defence of their title on Thursday evening, with an 8-1 victory over newcomers, Grace Arms.

John Lloyd and Richie Foulkes each bagged doubles, as Nomads started the ball rolling in their quest for a fourth consecutive title.

Further efforts from Rob Cotrell, Jamie Gardiner, Dean Jones and Kev Williams completed the total, and on Sunday, Lloyd and Jones netted again in the 4-0 win against Victoria Colts Seniors.

Carl Jarrell and Paul Ellison were the other marksmen.

Despite their opening evening's baptism of fire, Grace Arms were more than equal to Sunday's task, and posted a fine 3-2 win at Kent.

The Liverpool-based challengers will be disappointed with the defeat, having won 2-1 in their midweek fixture with Bronze, with goals from Danny Morley and Kyle Farrell.

Bronze gave it their best shot on Sunday, in their clash with Telegraph, who emerged 3-2 victors, thanks to efforts from Mike Vernon (2) and Ben Fitzpatrick.

The result made it two out of two for Telegraph who celebrated Thursday's 2-1 win against Woodchurch Rovers, with goals from Dave Favager and Kyle Williams.

The Premier Division's Player of the Year for last season, turned in a master class performance for Riverside in their opener with Wallasey Ath.

Gary Clarke had an excellent game and was instrumental in both goals goals from Danny Russell and James Taylor as Carl Rice's side won 2-0.

Goals were in abundance in Thursday's tussle between MSC Eastham and Halfway House.

Laurence Whelan bagged all three goals for Eastham but the visitors salvaged a point after they hit back through Joe Skinner(2)and Johnny Cable.

Whelan took his tally to four in two games, after he and Paul Fleckner scored for Eastham against Port Sunlight who took the spils in a 4-2 victory.

Sunlight lost 2-1 in their opener with Star Ozzys, who then crashed 3-0 on Sunday at Wallasey Ath. Half way House remained unbeaten after they finished 2-2 in Sunday's encounter with Woodchurch Rovers.

Two-goal Joe Skinner left his calling card once again.

Bronze (contact Dave Berry, 07732099812) and MSC Eastham (contact Paul Gee 07944968599) are still on the lookout for players to strengthen their respective squads, and invite interested persons to make contact as soon as possible.
