TRANMERE ROVERS........................2

ROB Edwards was delighted to claim his first win as Tranmere manager as Rovers defeated Wycombe 2-0 at Adams Park.

Cole Stockton and Max Power scored either side of half time, while Owain Fon Williams made a number of crucial saves to keep the club's first clean sheet of the season.

Edwards made three changes to the side that started at Shrewsbury, with Jason Koumas, Eliot Richards and Marcus Holness coming into the side in place of Matt Gill and injured pair Abdulai Baggie and Danny Holmes.

Rovers took the lead on 19 minutes. Danny Woodards found Power from a throw in and his cross was looped into the top left corner by Stockton from ten yards for the striker's first goal of the League Two campaign.

Tranmere doubled their advantage on 55 minutes as Matt Hill cut in from the left and found Richards inside the area. He played the ball back to Power and his drilled first time shot went through a crowded area into the bottom right corner.

Edwards said: "It's been a tough three days. I've been in the game a long time but nothing prepares you for being the manager of a team that concedes and gives two late goals away.

"So there was a bit of soul searching for myself and it was a bit of a crash course in the disappointment of football management at the weekend.

"I had to be the one who came in bubbly on Monday and we came here, had a long journey, prepared well and had to fight and scrap for the points."

"We were desperate to get that first win and we looked a better unit and didn't sit too deep.

The manager added: "I'm smiling a lot more than I was on Saturday. I'm trying to build a team here and we need to get on an upward curve."

The victory propelled Tranmere up the table to 11th position. They host sixth-placed Cheltenham Town at Prenton Park on Saturday.
