Poor turnout for Wirral regattas
Updated 10:02am Wednesday 9th July 2014 in Sport
THE worrying downward trend in regatta turnouts continued when Liverpool Yacht Club/Tranmere Sailing Club attracted 22 yachts for their annual event on the Mersey, writes Andrew Stratton.
Eazi Tiger sailed by Adam Kyffin from the host club headed IRC Class One and Class Two went to Di-Rich owned by Adele Farrell.
Ragtime, owned by Nigel Anderton and partners from Royal Mersey, took the four strong Etchells race and Aquila (John Corkhill) from West Kirby led the five Falcons. There were two in the Venture Cruiser Race won by Bateleur (Ewan Kirkbride).
The last of the local regattas take place this weekend with the West Kirby event on Saturday followed by Dee on Sunday.
It is a busy time for West Kirby who also hosted the junior regattas on Friday evening, the Finn National Championship over three days from Friday and Lark and Laser Open Meetings.
Royal Mersey hosted an inter-club team event in Etchells and Mylnes on Sunday with low water competition at Rock Ferry.
Wallasey, Hoylake and West Kirby all finished level on points but Wallasey were declared the winners on a count back after they and Hoylake each won twice.
