IN their recent Federation match the Wallasey Association's team had a splendid win when they beat Preston 'A' 28-04 on June 22.

In the home match at Royden Hall the team had 11 winners, five of these to single figures, while away on a fast and tricky Empire Service green the team had another nine winners.

The outstanding performances were by Robbie Fitzpatrick with a 21-03 win in the home leg and Brian Leonard who won 21-05 in Preston.

In the Isle of Man Tournaments the previous week the best individual performances by Wirral bowlers were by Heswall RBL's Ian Sherbrooke who was narrowly beaten, 21-19, in the final of the main competition and Tixall's Robbie Fitzpatrick who triumphed in the Tourism Trophy.

The final of the Wirral and District's Sansom Cup Tournament was held at Upton Victory Hall on Saturday, June 28 and it brought together the two teams who currently share the top spot in the Birkenhead and Wirral first Division, New Brighton Quarry Vikings and Gladstone.

Despite suffering a 21-02 loss in the first result off the green the New Brighton club fought back and with eight winners they clinched a 212-191 win to take this trophy for the Club's first time.

Their best performer was Paul Saville who recorded a 21-07 win while for Gladstone John Finch's 21-02 win gave them a great start.

It is about half way through the 2014 season in all the Wirral bowling leagues.

In the Birkenhead and Wirral League, as already stated, New Brighton Quarry Vikings and Gladstone currently share top spot in the first division but last year's champions Tixall are just one point behind and have played one game less.

In the second division Upton Victory Hall are top but second place New Brighton Quarry Vikings 'B' are just one point behind and have played two fewer games.

The third and fourth division leaders are Gladstone 'B' and New Brighton Quarry Vikings 'C'.

In the Afternoon Section Tixall and Higher Tranmere Vets top the first division while Harrison Park and Higher Tranmere Vets 'C' lead in the second division.

It is very tight in the third division with just one point separating Cammell Laird, Neston and Thingwall 'B'. Port Sunlight Village and Works and RNA 'B' lead in the fourth and fifth divisions.

The Bebington and District A division leaders are Gladstone with Heswall RBL in second place.

The B division is very close with four teams tied in top spot, Lever 'B', Cammell Lairds, Kings 2000, and Thingwall. Bromborough Pool 'B' lead the C division with Oxton Cons in second place.

The Wallasey Association first division has New Brighton Queens Royal in first place with great rivals West Kirby Victoria just a little way behind them.

Sacred Heart and Royden Hall lead the second division while in the third division the leaders are Moreton RBL, however West Kirby Park are not far behind in second place and have played three fewer games.

Next Saturday, July 5, The Charles Stephens sponsored Tixall Junior Classic is taking place at the Tixall Club.

There are two sections: under 14 and under 18, both as at January 1, 2014 and play starts at 11am.
