IN the second round Brunner Cup matches played on Saturday, three Wirral teams won through to the last 16.

Tixall just scraped through against Heswall RBL in an all Wirral encounter on the Bromborough Pool green.

The match was in doubt to the very end when in the last two matches both Robbie Hall and Mick Andrews fought back from being well down to take themselves, and Tixall, to victory.

Gladstone seemed to be out of their match with the King and Queen team but they came back from the dead to win through at the Woodland Hotel green.

While Hoylake Central, playing in their very first Brunner Cup match, had a very good win against Owley Wood in a match played at Tarvin.

In the local leagues, last year's Birkenhead and Wirral Champions, Tixall got off to a flying start with two big wins over their 'B' team.

Two of their potential rivals, Gladstone and Heswall RBL, were drawn against each other in the first two games and it was the Gladstone team that came out on top with home and away victories to give themselves a great start to the 2014 season.

Gladstone have also made a great start in the Bebington and District League where they won the 'A' division last year; they have followed on their victory over their close rivals, the Lever Club, in the first match of the season with two more wins to take the current top spot.

In the Wallasey Association first division West Kirby Victory have added three more wins to their excellent result over last year's champions New Brighton Queens Royal but at the moment Manor Road are just ahead of them in the first division.
