OULTON Park hosted the Wirral 100 Motor Club's smooth running of their premier motorcycle race day at the weekend with a massive entry of 340 riders over a total of 18 races, writes Mike Parsons.

For an established "home" event, Wirral-based riders were well represented.

Keith Jackson from Greasby was the Wirral’s model of consistent and fast riding of his 250cc Honda without any mishaps such that in his two races (of 35 starters) he recorded a third and next a second place finish.

Steve Jones from Bromborough on a 600cc Honda took part in three races gaining two tenths and a 14th in races with up to 35 starters Tony Rainford from Birkenhead on a 750cc Kawasaki took part in three races and gained two ninths and a 16th from more than 30 starters.

Andrew Jackson from Greasby had entered in two races on his 600cc Yamaha and finished 11th and seventh out of 28 entries.

Dave Marsden from Birkenhead had entered three races and came17th , 20th, and 16th out of 35 entries.

Scott Smyth from Birkenhead on a 600cc Kawasaki was 20th out of 39 starters in his Formula 600 race Wes Merrel from Wallasey was racing his 1,000cc Yamaha in three races and gained a 14th, a ninth, and a disappointing 21st place in a tough race where he had problems with a wet track.
