WITH the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division One title race now done and dusted in Maghull's favour, the race for the runners-up medals gathered pace.

Principal rivals South Liverpool, Hale and Ashville all posted important wins and stayed in contention.

Two goals from the impressive Carl Cargan were supplemented by further efforts from Alex Woodcock, Gary Cullard, Elliot Burnett, Lewis Fay and Mike Thompson, as second placed South Liverpool romped home 7-1 at Upton AA.

Hale turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-3 triumph following a goal packed contest at Christleton.

The Swans had Adam Thelwell-Wilson (2) and Joe Byrne on target but the visitors pulled off an excellent win, thanks to replies from Sean Wright (2), Josh Doran and Wayne Smith.

At Villa Park, Ashville's 2-1 eclipse of bottom club Heswall was confirmed by a goal apiece from Connor Murphy and efforts from Dan Grace.

Dan Connor, James McAdam and Dan Forrester steered Marshalls Reserves to a 4-0 win over Belfry and a Mike Collins' strike earned Neston Nomads maximum spoils from their trip to St Helens Town Reserves.
