Wirral Globe: Wirral Sunday League: Historic win for Neston Nomads Wirral Sunday League: Historic win for Neston Nomads

HISTORY was created on Thursday evening after Neston Nomads became the first team in the Wirral Sunday League to lift the top flight crown three years in succession.

Man of the match Mark Bentley scored a hat-trick in the 6-2 midweek eclipse of Shore Villa as Nomads rubber stamped the championship.

Paul Ellison, Richie Foulkes and Mike Burkey also contributed with Mike Walker (2) in reply for the visitors.

On Sunday, there was further cause for celebration after Nomads made sure of their place in the Premier Cup final against Kent FC after Lewis Clarke scored the only goal of the game against Towers.

Unbeaten Dvision One leaders Bebington had a week to remember after they beat Wallasey Town Athletic 2-0 on Tuesday, and retained form with Thursday's 5-1 win at Bromborough Social.

On Sunday, it was business as usual but it took a Darren Graham effort to settle a hard fought encounter with Forum Athletic.

Nearest rivals Higher Bebington RBL still look good for promotion despite drawing 1-1 with Forum before losing 5-3 to Primrose Liscard on Thursday.

To make matters worse, Legion's hopes of a place in the Senior Cup final were then destryoed on Sunday after they lost 1-0 to Lever Bushell Athletic. Chris Georgeson scored the all important decider.

In the other half of the draw, a Danny Price double was supplemented by further efforts from Adam Melling and Danny Eccles, as Wallasey Town Athletic accounted for Bromborough Social 4-2.

Another side who have run into form, are Primrose Liscard, appear to have unearthed a jewel in young Jordan Griffiths.

He fired a four-goal salvo in Sunday's 5-3 verdict over MSC Eastham. Peter Harley, Chris Gear and Mike Worsley netted for Eastham.

Finalists for the Martin Caulfield Junior Cup were resolved after Bromborough savoured a 7-2 result over an understrength Wirral Athletic.

Port Sunlight, with goals from Andy Grimes and Daniel Griffiths, edged a 2-1 decision over strongly-fancied Greave.

Sunday's Division Two action saw Cahmpions Bar return to the top of the table courtesy of a 2-1 victory over promotion rivals, Gladstone Athletic.

A Paul Edwards penalty and a screamer from man of the match Jason Rigby were enough to seal the issue.

The Wirral Sunday League has a limited number of vacancies for season 2014/15.

Application forms are available from league secretary Dave Lea by calling 0151 608 4332.
