BIRKENHEAD Ladies FC has had their best season in the Northwest Women’s Regional Football League winning promotion to the Premier division.

The 2013/14 season has seen an undefeated Birkenhead Ladies become proud winners of Division One South.

The final league game ended in a 5-0 victory by the champions.

Nadine Sword scored a remarkable four goals with Charlotte Cloy scoring the other.

Birkenhead, formerly Wirral Ladies Football Club, have been playing in the Northwest Regional Football League for 20 years.

Over the past 12 years, the women’s team have been able to sustain their league position due to the development of the girls’ section, which this season has seen an influx of young players coming through the ranks into the women’s team.

The squad of 20 has a balance of youth and more experienced players, which they say has been fundamental to the season so far.

Now the league is secured, their next task is to focus on the League Plate; the team are in the quarter-finals, which will be played next Sunday April. 6.

Looking forward to next season, Birkenhead is aiming to expand further for youth players with an under-18 girls’ development team.

The club is also aiming to start over with a young team (underten girls), which will be run by qualified Coach Chelsey Hodgin, a senior who started with the club as a young player.
