MOTORS left the Eon Visual Media Stadium empty-handed as they were well beaten by promotion-chasing North Ferriby United.

The opening exchanges of play were fairly even with neither keeper seriously threatened however the home side gradually took control as the game went on.

North Ferriby took the lead on the 18 minutes when a Jamie Yates corner eventually reached Danny Hone, who turned and fired the ball under the bar for the opening goal.

Motors started the second-half in determined style but could not create any significant goal attempts despite their pressure.

Ex-Chester striker Nathan Jarman sealed the game on 61 minutes when Andy Nicholas was shepherding the ball towards the goal-line however Jarman somehow managed to get a foot in and score from a tight angle.

It got worse for the Motormen in the 78th minute when full-back Louis Barnes was sent-off for dissent.

Motors didn't give up and had a couple of attempts on goal late on. The best chance fell to Steven Tames in the final few minutes who forced keeper Adam Nicklin into a finger-tipped save.

After the game, Vauxhall manager Carl Macauley said: "We always knew this would be a tough place to come as we played North Ferriby earlier in the season so we were well aware of their quality, especially the two men upfront.

"It was disappointing to have Louis sent off, but we were already 2-0 down before being reduced to ten men.

"We now have to dust ourselves down, roll up our sleeves and make sure we start putting some points on the board if we want to continue playing at this level next season."

Vauxhall: Jones, Wainwright, Barnes, Hannigan, Nicholas, Noone, Tames, Clair, Tuck (Rutter 63), Ellams, Fearnehough Subs not used: Hughes, Martindale, Wright.

This Saturday, March 8, Motors are on their travels again when they are away to Guiseley.
