YET another blank weekend for soccer as the pitches were wiped out again due to the heavy rain falls, but the Wirral Borough Council should take credit for making such an early and well timed decision on pitch closures.

This decision will of course cause a fixture back log, but should help to preserve the playing surfaces for the few months left to complete all outstanding fixtures.

League news includes the resignation of New Brighton Youth in the Dundee Youth Division.

They had four games remaining and after consultation with the County FA, it was agreed that the points of these fixtures be awarded to their opponents and the league table will show these changes.

Also in the same division, Eastham Rangers were successful in appealing against the non-arrival of Upton Youth and they too were awarded the points.

In the Premier Division Cup, Great Float S&S were found to have played an ineligible player, as they failed to provide evidence to support their defence and they were struck out of the competition, with their opponents going through to the next round.

In the Premier Division, Poulton Royal failed to fulfil a scheduled fixture and also failed to provide supportive evidence for their absence and they were deducted the points of the fixture, which were awarded to their opponents.

Since these decisions were made an individual has opened a 'Twitter' account in the name of the League Secretary – who has nothing whatsoever to do with this social media – and derogatory and defamatory remarks have been applied to this site.

Please be aware that this form of stupidity does nothing for the league in general and is the action of a small minded yet vindictive fool who should be ashamed of themselves.

Sad news of the week came with the funeral of ex-player Steve Butterworth, who was one of many who helped to start the league some 50 years ago and our thoughts go out to all his family and friends at this very sad time.
